10 years ago, I was a miserable lab technician - stuck in a dead-end job.

I learned about data analytics and was hooked. I thought it was such a cool job: paid well, remote-friendly, seemed fun.

I decided I wanted to become a Data Analyst.

Only one problem....I had no idea what to do.

I tried a bunch of things: books, videos, blogs, classes, podcasts, etc.

In hindsight, I did 100+ things wrong.

But in the end, I did it. I pivoted into data analytics.

This week, I wrote a letter to my miserable-stuck-in-a-dead-end-job self.

It's exactly what I should have done to pivot faster & easier.

The letter is actually a 7-hour video - full of advice & tutorials.

And of course, I can't actually send it to my former self.

So instead...I'm seeing if it might be helpful to you?

Get my "How to Become a Data Analyst" video letter here.

Enjoy!

DATA JOBS OF THE WEEK

WHO YOU SHOULD FOLLOW

I want to start highlighting some of the awesome aspiring data analysts in our community.

Caleb McCombie

He's a middle school math teacher who has been working on landing a data job the last 100 days...and spoiler alert - he did it! 🥳

😢No one is hiring entry-level data analysts any more

I'm hearing a lot of, "one one is hiring entry-level data analysts any more."

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration... maybe you could say "there is less entry-level roles now than before".

But even then...whether that's actually statistically true... is up for debate.

I don't have the data for this (although, I'm working on creating a report for you - stay tuned).

But I do know this...

We had 3 students in The Accelerator land offers this week.

None w/ prior data experience. None w/ a computer science degree.

Just average Joe's like you and me.

  • One did an internal pivot (something we cover in Module 1) - easiest and fastest way to land a data job.
  • Another announced his pivot from middle school teacher to Data Analyst on LinkedIn.
  • And the last one, gave some killer advice to their fellow bootcamp students. Wanted to share here as well...

"One thing I really tried to stick with was the LinkedIn networking techniques we learned.

When I found a company and role I really wanted, I didn’t just apply and hope for the best.

I went on LinkedIn and messaged pretty much anyone I could find at the company who might be connected to the role.

A lot of people never responded, and some conversations didn’t go anywhere, but I just kept reaching out.

Eventually, I connected with the right people, which helped me get an interview.

After multiple interviews and a lot of preparation, I ended up landing the job as a fully remote Program Analyst!

I also want to say thank you to Avery and the whole DAA team. A lot of what I learned here, especially the LinkedIn and networking techniques, played a big part in helping me finally get there!"

Congrats to these 3 students! I'm so happy & excited for them. And they so deserve it. They've earned it.

If you want to learn the things they learned (internal pivots, SPN method, networking tactics, etc), then consider The Accelerator.

Now is a great time to join. It's on sale, and you get a bunch of bonuses when you sign up - including our new live AI workshops happening later this month.

New cohort starts on Monday
