🌟 How This High School Drop Out Became a $500k Data Analyst (Sundas Khalid)
Ever feel like you have the odds stacked against you in your data journey? Sundas Khalid sure felt that way: high school dropout, immigrant with imperfect English, starting her career later than everyone else. And yet? She’s somehow made it to a $500k data rockstar crushing it at Google. Here’s her story 👇
Sundas was applying for data jobs but getting rejection after rejection. Sound familiar? One day, she reluctantly attended a networking event. Suddenly, she somehow serendipitously landed a data analyst role with Amazon. From there, she learned data engineering on the job and eventually data science. Now? She’s a Principal Analytics Lead at Google on their Search Ads team. The rest is history.
Two things I love that Sundas did, and think we all should do:
Network Reluctantly
Learn on The Job
Too often, we think networking isn’t for us because it’s pointless and we hate it. Networking does suck, especially for us introverts. But it’s worth it in the end. And there’s ways to do it more naturally, and easier.
Too often, we think we have to learn everything before we land a job. In reality, it’s about learning the fundamentals to get your foot in the door. You can learn the more advanced stuff on the job.
Sundas has made lots of other good moves too. She
Negotiated $1,000’s in salary increase
Found great, genius mentors
Learned how to have her money make money
Worked smarter, not harder with AI
And she dives into all these inside our 34 minute interview.
